Midas took the long way back to his house. He wanted to be sure that he checked around Anna’s house. He smiled as the icy snow landed and melted on his face. That woman could make him come with a look. She just didn’t recognize her own power.

He was starting to believe that was a good thing. She was making him feel things without even trying. For the last few years of his life, many women had tried and failed to manipulate his interest.

Their actions had ensured that he typically only dealt with similar cynical businesswomen who saw him as a way to scratch an itch. He’d enjoyed a series of emotionless relationships with women who’d never really cared about him, and he’d been happy with that.

He kept telling himself that this was just a game. He just needed her to agree to sell the land to him, but seeing her in trouble tonight had turned something on in his brain. After that kiss, he was sure that sleeping with her would only make things worse.

What did he do now? He wasn’t the kind of man that a woman could easily care for. He was too cynical, too difficult for most people to handle. He needed to speak with his brother and get some advice.

He couldn’t walk away now. His body wouldn’t let him. But how did he control this feeling tearing through his chest? Ramsey was the guy who understood how to deal with women. At least, he always had one on his arm, and they always appeared happy to be there.

When he got to his house, he started a fire in the living room and gave himself a moment to relax. He showered and pulled out his phone. He didn’t try to calculate the time difference. Wherever Ramsey was, he would talk to him.

“Hello?” A woman answered and she sounded like he’d pulled her out of sleep.

“Let me speak to Ramsey, please.”

“And you are?”

“Someone important enough to know his personal cell. Give the phone to my brother.”

Midas could hear the woman complaining about him through the line. Ramsey took a second to soothe her.

“Midas, you’ve upset my guest,” Ramsey said sleepily.

“Is that what you’re calling them these days?”

“What do you want, brother?”

“I’m in a predicament with a woman, and I figured you were the best person to call for advice.”

“With a real woman?” Ramsey exclaimed.

Midas rolled his eyes. “Shut up, Ramsey.”

“Okay, what’s her name?”

“Here’s the thing; you’re going to be upset.”

“Wait, you are in Alaska looking at the property. You better not mean Anna Marshall.”

“If I do?”

“You sent Brandon after her. How do you think this ends? Only you would fall for someone in a situation like this.”

“I haven’t fallen for her.”

“Midas, you are calling me in the middle of the night for advice about a woman.”

“And I’m regretting it right now,” Midas snapped.

“I’m sorry. I have some questions, but I will shelve them… for now. Tell me more about this woman.”

“Anna is…she is different from anyone else.
